The restaurant at Relais Bernard Loiseau boasts one of the finest wine cellars in Burgundy (15 000 bottles, or 900 different labels), which is managed by Executive Sommelier Eric Goettelmann.
In 2005 and 2007, Relais Bernard Loiseau’s wine list won the ‘Wine Press Grand Prix’ in the ‘Luxury’ category, with a jury composed of 60 people drawn from the worlds of winegrowing, journalism, catering and wine waiting.
Eric Goettelmann is executive sommelier and responsible for developing the Bernard Loiseau Group. He was named best sommelier in Burgundy in 2004, 2006 and 2008. He was named best sommelier of the year in 2006 by Le Chef magazine, by a jury of 80, and then again in 2010 by the Guide Champérard.
Baptiste Gauthier is now senior sommelier at Relais Bernard Loiseau. He was elected second best student sommelier in France in 2004, and then best young sommelier in Burgundy Bourgogne in the Ruinart Trophy competition in 2006, and finally was a semi-finalist in the Duval-Leroy Trophy competition in 2009.
Throughout the year, Eric and Baptiste comb the wine-growing areas to uncover hidden gems, and also to seek out less well-known labels which can often provide pleasant surprises and offer excellent value for money..
